The following is a list of foods that are allowed (legal) and foods that are not allowed (illegal) while following the Specific Carbohydrate Diet™, as outlined in the book Breaking the Vicious Cycle.

Oats Illegal
Okra Illegal No okra (bhindi) or drumsticks, since they are a mucilaginous food, they are illegal.
Olive oil Olive oil withstands heat well, good for frying cookng and is highly recommended.
Olives Olives are legal as long as they do not contain illegal ingredients; read the labels carefully.
Onions Use fresh onions. Onion powders have starch added as anti-caking agents. You may also make your own onion powder from fresh onions by dehydrating them and grinding them yourself.
Orange juice Fresh orange juice that does not have sugar added is allowed. While diarrhea is active, avoid having orange juice in the morning. We use Tropicana's Original Orange Juice, as it has been checked out and does not have sugar added.

My 12 year old son was diagnosed with IBD a year ago and we bought the book and started the diet right away. He got immediate relief from his symptoms and although he has had a couple flares, I'm sure if not for this diet, he would be so much worse! The book is easy to follow, contains recipes, and is a wealth of information. The diet is one we should ALL follow, as it eliminates all processed/junk food and focuses on good healthy food.
