The Healing Kitchen:

Cooking for The Specific Carbohydrate Diet
6 week course: Thursday, January 26-Thursday March 2, 7-9 pm

Those "Gut Friendly Gourmets" are back for the second season of "The Healing Kitchen." Learn to prepare scrumptious foods that can help to heal intestinal disorders, such as Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, irritable bowel syndrome and celiac disease. Recipes are based on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD), which has also proved helpful for autism. All SCD recipes are gluten-free, sugar-free, soy-free, grain-free, corn-free and rice-free. The SCD, invented by Dr. Sydney V. Haas, was made famous by the late Elaine Gottschall, dedicated scientist and nutrition expert, after it healed her daughter’s ulcerative colitis 50 years ago. Gottschall's book Breaking the Vicious Cycle is known internationally, has been translated into seven languages, has sold over a million copies and has helped to heal thousands. Jodi Bager, Fannie DeCaria, Carol Frilegh and Jenny Lass will demonstrate their top ten SCD favorites, dedicate entire sessions to each of the main daily meals, and demonstrate holiday meals. All are innovative cooks who use the diet for themselves and their families. Jodi and Jenny have authored the recently published cookbook Grain-Free Gourmet. Jodi is also the founder and president of J. Gourmet, an almond-flour baked good company. Fannie is a graduate in culinary arts from the George Brown College and Carol assists on support groups for the SCD.
