Hello I am new and an internist and wrote to the list recently and described how my wife had a dramatic total remission of her near universal UC of 10 yrs duration after 10 mos. of the SCD diet. Her last colonoscopy was entirely normal--even the biopsies. We are so appreciative! My question is this. How hard would it be to tabulate 25-50 self reported
hard confirmed remissions due to the diet.? By hard confirmed I mean follow-up colonoscopy or small bowel follow through and/or fistula closing etc.

I am suggesting these end points to avoid the symptom improvement as the only objective response. (It's difficult to convince anyone with symptom improvement alone.) I have discovered 7-8 case reports of this type on the Amazon reviewer pages for Elaine's book. If several dozen of these self reported firm cases could be collected, a medical report could surely be done somewhere to arouse physician interest in a randomized controlled trial. I realize this is old hat to you veterans, but something needs to be done to awaken the medical world that this SCD diet may save ~50% of IBD patients a lot of suffering.

At the very least we could add a reference in Medline for physicians and health personnel, and probably I and other MD's could make presentations to our local medical hospital staff meetings. Every MD has been taught "No diet makes a difference" and it is hard to get their attention. However, remember a young Australian MD set out to show the world 15 years ago that peptic ulcers were caused by a bacteria-- and was laughed at. Now all the white coats act like we have known this all along! I for one am convinced enough that I would suggest SCD as a trial to all IBD patients. Do you think we could find these confirmed responses?
